The More Things Change...

Submitted by Steve Blount on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 3:44pm

I have started to notice some interesting things over the past several weeks. Recently, at a Sunday morning worship service, Marc Guy was set to read the scripture for the week. As he came up to the pulpit he asked everyone to hold up their Bibles. As people did this I noticed to at least 5 people held up their cell phone with their Bible applications open. Interesting.

Each week the message is posted on the church’s website. For the past several months we have averaged anywhere from 30-70 different and unique listeners playing the sermon online. Many of these are from out of state. Interesting.

For the past few weeks I have been experimenting with posting each point of Pastor’s message to the church’s Twitter account (www.twitter.com/fbcdunkirk). Each of these posts is also posted into the group called #SundayMessage. Each of the weeks this has been done we have added new followers to the Twitter feed. Interesting.

As exciting as new technology is to me, the ability and new avenues that open for spreading the Gospel are even more exciting. Today there are so many more ways to spread God’s Word, along with the ability to reach an unprecedented amount of people, than at any time in the past. That ability is literally at our finger tips.

The beautiful part of this is that, even though the way we communicate the message changes constantly, the message itself never does. God’s Word is as consistent now as it was 2000 years ago. The message of God’s redeeming love is the same now as it always has been and always will be.
